Bernard Baudry Chinon Rosé 2022

Organic. 100% Cabernet Franc. Baudry’s irresistible rosé was traditionally drawn from vines rooted in the gravel terroir of Grézeaux and a parcel called Les Balais, which was originally planted by Matthieu’s father some 30 years ago. In contrast to Grézeaux, Les Balais is on clay and flint (silex) soils. More recently, to counter the warmer seasons, Baudry has introduced a vineyard sited high on the Chinon côteaux above his iconic Croix Boissée vineyard. The fruit from the flinty soils of this site now contributes 70% of the blend, bringing incisive cut and minerality to the fruit from the valley floor. Extremely low yields have resulted in a textured, fragrant, super-crisp and mineral-laced dry rosé with a backbone of crunchy acidity. There’s a fine, seamless texture, but this is more about finesse and freshness and is a striking example of how rosé can be a wine of terroir. Matthieu Baudry thinks this is the finest rosé he has produced since 2014 and we are in agreement. It’s great to have some back in stock, even if it is unlikely to last very long
